Drug-Free. Holistic. Comprehensive Treatments.

Drug-Free Pain Management

We provide a variety of natural, non-habit forming, holistic approaches to pain management that can help chronic pain patients regain their freedom and offer an alternative to addictive painkillers and opioids. After reviewing all of your pertinent information, a customized treatment plan will be developed involving some of the modalities listed in the sections below, often in conjunction with our more standard therapies.

By combining therapies from both eastern traditions and modern western medicine, we can offer our patients comprehensive treatments that are unique to each individual’s specific physiology and ailment.

Is Alternative Pain Management Right for Me?

Pain is a very subjective experience.  A small injury to one person may not even be felt but another person with a similar injury could be in terrible pain.  Why is this?  In many ways, the mechanism by which we humans process given nerve impulses into the perception of pain is largely a mystery.  Likewise, how we interpret the experience of pain varies greatly from one individual to the next.  How can one person “walk it off” when another person is greatly impaired?

By assessing each patient on an individual basis and learning the background of the injury or illness, we can begin the process of unravelling the pain mechanism that is active in that person.  The human body is a fascinating entity with remarkable self regulating and self healing abilities and when treated in the proper way can provide relief with its own self made (endogenous) pain killing substances. It is our job to discover the right therapy that can intervene in the generation and perception of pain.

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy (A.P.I.T), sometimes called biopuncture, is a therapy that combines acupuncture, injection therapy, homeopathy, and vitamin therapy.

The first part of the process is for gathering as much information about the injury, illness or syndrome causing the pain, both form the patient themselves and any accompanying lab results or imaging.  The next step is for identifying and isolating specific sites of pain and coming up with a treatment plan to intervene in the body’s pain generation and perception mechanism.

This treatment plan will involve the injection of specific homeopathic, herbal or nutritional substances into acupuncture points in the associated tissues.  The contents of these injections will be formulation with all natural, medical grade, FDA approved sterile solutions chosen specifically for the condition being treated.

A course of treatment may involve a series of injections designed to take the body through the different stages of healing.  For instance a neck injury might first be treated with an anti-inflammatory preparation, then one to heal muscle tissue, then one to quiet irritated nerves.  A final treatment may involve substances to help nourish the newly repaired tissues.

Treatment is relatively low cost, starting at $45 per injection (plus office visit) and has a very low incidence of side effects, other than those normally associated with any type of injection, such as bruising or minor pain at the injection site.  In most cases very small gauge, relatively painless needles are used for the injections.

Electro-Therapy

The use of electricity to help heal the body has been around as long as electricity itself and today’s technologies allow for very safe, very innovative products that work in several different ways.

Yoga & Meditation

Because of the complex nature of the perception of pain, effective treatment may require addressing the issue from a mental or emotional standpoint as well as the physical.

Studies have shown that yoga & meditation may be very effective tools for pain relief by lowering the level of stress hormones and mediating the effects of the inflammatory response.

By learning to breathe deeply and consciously relax the body, the physiological causes of pain may decrease.  The daily practice of meditation can also help to change our relationship to the pain.  That is, to provide a little distance and some perspective between the sensation of pain and our perception of the moment.

You should not stop taking any medication without first consulting with your primary health care provider.  After having met with our experts and attending the appropriate therapy sessions you may feel that you are ready to explore changing or even ending a pain management prescription with your primary heath care provider however we do not recommend making any changes prior to having this discussion with your doctor.

"Doc" Healy gave me a perfect acupuncture treatment. I was in bad shape coming from a complex cataract surgery experience. He centered me, and calmed me and I left deeply satisfied, an important next step in healing.
